The US Air Force Requested $5.8 billion For Building 1,000 Or More AI-Driven Unmanned Combat Aircraft

The US Air Force is requesting $5.8 billion of dollars into AI-based aircraft. The Air Force is desperately chasing down to develop an aircraft that doesn’t need any pilots. AI pilots will drive all the military aircraft on risky missions.

The XQ-58A Valkyrie aircraft is an AI-powered aircraft. XQ-58A Valkyrie serves as a wingman to a human pilot. Its work is to provide cover and control all systems when the human pilot struggles. The best use case scenario of AI Pilots is in the suicide mission.

Insider reports added Valkyrie can cruise at 550 mph, operational alt 45,000 feet, and range of 3,000 nautical miles. The US Air Force discloses that they have started the simulation tests of AI Pilots. In that simulation, there will be chasing enemies and killing targets over the Gulf of Mexico this year.

The budget is estimated at $5.8 billion but not confirmed. The project is contracted over 5 years of research and development systems like Valkyrie.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said as far back as 2019 that “machines with the power and discretion to take lives without human involvement are politically unacceptable, morally repugnant and should be prohibited by international law.”

On the other side, some human rights advocates are concerned that the advancement of AI in weapons might lead us to a “Terminator” style nightmare in the future.
